Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov participated in the consultative meeting on the family issues

On December 17, 2014 at the initiative of Belarus in collaboration with Egypt, Iran, Nicaragua, Qatar, Holy See and a number of the US-based international non-governmental organizations the consultative meeting on the protection of the family was held in the headquarters of the United Nations.

Mr Valentin Rybakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, in his statement noted that Belarus considers the family as a social institution that reflects social and economic developments in society as well as ethical, cultural and religious aspects of social life.Traditional family plays a significant role in the education of future generations and takes care of the most vulnerable members of society – children, the disabled, the elderly.

The diplomat of Belarus drew attention to the dangerous tendencies to destroy the foundations of the natural family. Valentin Rybakov proposed to the participants of the event to consider possible joint steps aimed at advancing the role of the family in the decisions of the United Nations, in particular of the UN Summit in 2015.

Azerbaijan, Vatican, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, Morocco, Russia, Saudi Arabia and a number of non-governmental organizations supported approaches of Belarus and shared their vision on the ways of promotion of the traditional family in the UN.
