Delegation of Belarus participates in the inter-sessional meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Anti-Personnel Mines

On June 8-9, 2017 in Geneva the delegation of Belarus participated in the inter-sessional meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines.

Within the framework of the event special attention was paid to the completion of the destruction process of stockpiles of PFM-1 antipersonnel mines in the Republic of Belarus, which is considered by the international community as an important step towards the achievement of a world without anti-personnel mines by 2025.

During the event, the Deputy Head of the International Security and Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Ovsyanko, presented a national report on the complete liquidation by the Republic of Belarus of stockpiled antipersonnel mines and full implementation of commitments in accordance with Article 4 of the Convention.

The Belarusian diplomat noted that this event, achieved with technical assistance of the European Union, can serve as a good example of how responsible governance, political will, cooperation and public-private partnership contribute to achieving of the Sustainable Development Goals and building a safer world.
