Joint statement on 70th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

27 March 2015

At the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva Belarus and Russia supported by Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzhikistan and Uzbekistan made a joint statement on behalf on the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The particular importance of the Victory day 9 May to our nations which contributed decisively to the defeat of Nazism and suffered the greatest human and material loss was underlined in the statement. Tributes paid to all who died on the battlefields and to all victims of Nazism.

Attention of the Human Right Council was drawn to the inadmissibility of cynical attempts to ignore the lessons of war and to make the distorted moral and legal assessment of its results. Glorification of Nazism and revival of ideology are fuelling intolerance, discrimination, extremism and hatred on ethnic, racial and religious grounds. All countries and peoples of the world shall fight these threats to prevent new tragedies and preserve peace and security for coming generations.
