Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin Rybakov participates in the intergovernmental negotiations on the preparation for the UN summit

On July 27-31, 2015 UN headquarters in New York is hosting intergovernmental negotiations on the preparation for the UN summit in September for the adoption the post-2015 sustainable development agenda.

The delegation of the Republic of Belarus at the final session of the negotiations is led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov.

During the discussion on the draft outcome document of the UN Summit Valentin Rybakov made specific suggestions for the wording of the final document relating to the topic of the traditional family as a contributor to sustainable development. The representative of Belarus expressed an opinion that such step will meet the expectations of millions of people who believe in importance and strength of the family.

In the context of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, annually commemorated on July 30, Valentin Rybakov also urged to consolidate in the summit’s outcome document the need for further multilateral efforts to combat this unacceptable phenomenon.

He also presented a position to finalize the text of the document taking into account such issues important to Belarus as interests of middle-income countries, promotion of technology and energy, financing for development, rejection of unilateral coercive measures and sanctions.

On the margins of the negotiations the Belarusian diplomat met with the co-facilitator of the process, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN Macharia Kamau. The sides discussed the options for finalizing the outcome document of the summit and the possibility of incorporating provisions of fundamental importance for global sustainable development. The co-facilitator mentioned the positive role of Belarus during the negotiations on the summit’s document.

On the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons Valentin Rybakov gave an interview to the Russian Service of the UN Radio. He noted that it was Belarus who initiated establishment of the World Day in its anti-trafficking resolution adopted by 68th session of the UN General Assembly. This initiative was welcomed by our partners including international and non-governmental organizations and has been unconditionally supported by the UN Member States.

Deputy Foreign Minister informed about the activities carried out on the occasion of the World Day in Belarus, including the international workshop in Minsk on the issue of combating trafficking in children for representatives of the Member States of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking and international organisations.
