Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a report «The Most Resonant Human Rights Violations in Certain Countries – 2014».

The report is aimed to draw the attention to the problems in the sphere of human rights in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The outcomes of the Universal Periodic Review – UPR and the concluding observations of the UN treaty bodies following the consideration of the countries’ progress on implementation of the UN human rights treaties have been widely used in the report.

Belarus has passed the first UPR cycle in 2010 and continues to proactively work on the implementation of the UPR recommendations.  The progress of implementation have been discussed at the series of national consultations with the participation of  both state organs and civil society, UN country team, Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights – OHCHR, Council of Europe, European Union. As the result of the abovementioned events the national report for the second UPR cycle has been prepared in partnership with all concerned (details here).  

The dialogue with thematic special procedures of the UN Human Rights Council, special mechanisms designed to help UN member-states to implement their international human rights commitments, continues. Among the discussed topics is their possibility to visit Belarus.

Further steps of cooperation between Belarus, the UN country office and OHCHR, as well as themes of the future human rights events in Belarus are being discussed to coordinate joint efforts on the implementation of recommendations of the next UPR cycle.
