Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei meets the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization

On July 7, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai.

During the meeting, the Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry informed the UNWTO Secretary General about the intention of our country to significantly intensify cooperation with this credible international organization. Following the appointment in 2016 of the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the World Tourism Organization (Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko), Belarus considers the possibility of its’ nomination to the UNWTO Executive Council. Belarus is also ready to become a venue for one of the Organizations’ important events.

In his turn, the Head of the UNWTO highly appreciated Belarus’ tourist potential and steps taken to its’ effective and sustainable use in accordance with the recommendations and best practices of the Organization. T.Rifai expressed his willingness to continue to provide Belarus with the UNWTO advisory assistance in order to increase tourist attractiveness and awareness of the regions of Belarus, as well as of some of the most significant objects of cultural and natural heritage of our country.
