Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas meets the Executive Director of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime

On March 13, 2018 during visit to Vienna, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, met with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Director-General of the UN Office at Vienna, Yuri Fedotov.

The parties discussed interaction between Belarus and UNODC in the sphere of countering the world drug problem, touched on the problem of combating human trafficking, including in the context of the implementation of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly resolution “Improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons” initiated by Belarus. A.Dapkiunas and Y.Fedotov considered the possibilities to intensify the work of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons.

A.Dapkiunas noted the importance of expansion of practical cooperation between Belarus and UNODC, including in the context of implementation in our country of activities of the global program to prevent and combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, as well as within the regional program of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime for Eastern Europe in the field of combating crime and drug trafficking.

The issue of the preparation of the conference “Preventing and Combating Terrorism in the Digital Age” which is to be held in October 2018 in Minsk was also touched upon. The issues of UODC’s participation in the preparation and holding of this event were discussed.
