Photo exhibition on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory over fascism opened at the UN Headquarters in New York

05 May 2015

On May 4, 2015 the UN Headquarters in New York hosted the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition “The Last World War I: remember for Peace” organized by the initiative of Belarus together with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Black-and-white photographs of wartime reflect the contribution to the victory over fascism of all countries of the former USSR.  Photo portraits of heroes of the Soviet Union represent the tribute to the courage of people who sacrificed their lives for the Victory.

The epic photos not only reflect the distinctive historical episodes of the struggle against Nazism, but primarily focus on the human perception of suffering, pain and horrors of war.

The key-note of the exhibition — the tragedy of world war should never be repeated in the history of mankind.

The preparation of the concept of exhibition, its content and artworks were provided by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations with the effective support of the rest of the co-organizers.

The photo exhibition has become one of the most notable events in the United Nations to mark the 70th  anniversary of the Great Victory and attracted the attention of many visitors from Member States.
