Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov meets Special Representative of the UN Secretary General

On May 20, 2015 on the margins of the ministerial energy dialogue at the UN Headquarters Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov met with Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, chief executive of the initiative “Sustainable Energy for All” Kandeh Yumkella.

The sides discussed the progress in implementing the initiative since its inception in 2012. K.Yumkela briefed the Belarusian representative about the success in achieving the main objectives of the initiative in ensuring universal access to modern energy services, raising energy efficiency and increasing the share of renewable energy sources. Valentin Rybakov, in his turn, shared with the UN representative information on the national efforts of Belarus in the field of energy and its participation in the international cooperation in this field.

Valentin Rybakov specifically drew the interlocutor’s attention to the proposals of Belarus aimed at improving the effectiveness of multilateral energy cooperation with a particular emphasis on availability of advanced energy technologies. He assured the Special Representative in readiness of Belarus to contribute within the UN to joint efforts of states and other stakeholders to address energy issues for the benefit of global sustainable development.
