Permanent Representative of Belarus V,Rybakov delivers a statement at the high-level event on water issues

On March 22, 2018 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations, Valentin Rybakov, particiapated in the high-level event to commemorate the launch of the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.

Background Information: Water is one of the priorities of Tajikistan in the UN. On December 21, 2016 the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 71/222, in which the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to declare 2018-2028 the International Decade of Action “Water for sustainable development” was proclaimed.

In his speech, the Head of the Belarusian Mission expressed gratitude to Tajikistan for leadership and long-term efforts to ensure progressive sustainable management of water resources and also outlined support for the launch of the new International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development”.

V.Rybakov emphasized that the sixth Sustainable Development Goal — ensuring the availability and rational use of water resources and sanitation for all — is one of the priorities of Belarus.

The Permanent Representative reported that a special policy is being implemented in the country in order to ensure integrated water resources management. A set of adopted measures includes Water Strategy for the period until 2020 and the National Strategy for Sustainable Social and Economic Development of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2030.

At the end of his speech, the Head of the Belarusian Mission called for maximum use of all available international assistance mechanisms for timely and full implementation of SDG 6, including finances, technologies, and information exchange on best practices.
