Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei meets members of the “Association of Honorary Consuls”

On January 13, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with the executive staff and members of the “Association of Honorary Consuls", that consists of Honorary Consuls of foreign states accredited in the Republic of Belarus.

In his statement, the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus stressed that to promote national interests and develop mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign countries, the Foreign Ministry is committed to use all diplomatic tools, including the institution of Honorary Consuls.

V.Makei noted that since the foundation in 2014 of the “Association of Honorary Consuls', interaction with the members of this structure has reached a qualitatively new level. The Minister assured Honorary Consuls that the Foreign Ministry will continue to provide them all possible assistance in the representation in the Republic of Belarus of the countries they are accredited by.

The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stressed that the activity of an Honorary Consul deserves a really high estimation when he/she acts as a "bridge" between the two countries. V.Makei called on Honorary Consuls to pay equal attention to the promotion of economic interests of Belarus in the states they are accredited by and to the development of humanitarian, cultural and scientific cooperation between the countries. Hence, make a significant contribution to the strengthening of political ties between the states. V.Makei noted that from this point of view, Foreign Ministry perceives Belarusian Honorary Consuls abroad and Honorary Consuls appointed by foreign countries in Belarus as part of one team.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the facilitation in 2017 of a number of joint events by the Foreign Ministry together with the "Association of Honorary Consuls".
