Belarus and International Partners Hold a Side-Event on Human Trafficking in Geneva

On 19 June, 2018 on the margins of the 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council Belarus held a side-event entitled “Combating Sex Trafficking through a Survivor-Centered Approach”.
The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva in partnership with UNODC, OHCHR, OSCE, ODIHR and the international NGO “Equality Now”.
The panel also included Marianna Griselda Grootbom (South Africa), a sex trafficking survivor, who currently heads the international NGO “Survivor Exit Foundation”.
The event featured a discussion on various aspects of the topic viewed from the perspective of international universal, regional and non-governmental organizations. The presentation of Belarus covered the issue of human trafficking and technology in light of an identical Belarus-sponsored resolution adopted last May by the UN Commission on Crime Prevention in Vienna.
All panelists emphasized a leading role played by the Republic of Belarus in advancing world-wide efforts to combat trafficking in persons, expressed hope for its strengthening in the future.
