9th meeting of twinned-cities of Belarus and Germany opened in Nesvizh

On June 24-25, 2016 Nesvizh hosts 9th meeting of twinned-cities of Belarus and Germany. In the opening ceremony on June 24 participated Head of the Department of Europe of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Evgeny Vorobyev.

The representative of the Foreign Ministry addressed to the participants of the event with a welcome speech on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Makei.

In his welcome the Minister noted that the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Belarus has always highly appreciated the role of “people's diplomacy”, one of the most effective forms of which are contacts of twinned-cities.

Belarus Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the citizens of Germany for their readiness to help the Belarusians to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe. Belarus highly appreciates the contribution of the German partners in this sphere. In this regard, the Minister noted that humanitarian cooperation remains today, 30 years after the Chernobyl accident, and bears results.

Noting the importance of humanitarian cooperation, V.Makei called the participants of the forum for increase of economic component of twinned-cities cooperation, in order to open new opportunities for introducing Belarusian products to foreign markets, attracting foreign investment and technologies in the Belarusian economy.

The organizers of the meeting of twinned-cities of Belarus and Germany are the Belarusian public organization “Twinned Cities” Belarusian Society of Friendship, “Meetings West-East” Foundation, the Federal Association of German companies “West-East ”, Nesvizh regional executive committee and the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Belarus.

The forum is attended by representatives of 30 cities and communities of Belarus and Germany.

According to the program of the 9th meeting of twinned-cities of Belarus and Germany it is planned to hold discussions within sections and round tables on the development of cooperation in the fields of economy and investment, culture, education, health and youth movement.
