Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich meets the Executive Director of UNAIDS

On October 25, 2016 the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, met with the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS), Michel Sidibe.

During the meeting, the sides discussed preparation for the Regional consultations on expanding access to affordable and quality assured antiretroviral and anti-TB drugs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to be held in Minsk in November 2016.

The UNAIDS Executive Director expressed confidence that the results of the Minsk meeting will form the basis for the development of even closer regional cooperation on this subject. It was noted that the results of the discussions are intended to contribute to the improvement of national systems of counteraction to HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis.

M.Sidibe expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Belarus and the UNAIDS and welcomed the government's targeted efforts to create an effective and sustainable response to the domestic HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis problem.

M.Sidibe also welcomed the active international position of Belarus in the field of combating the spread of HIV / AIDS.

Executive Director specifically thanked for the support of UNAIDS, expressed in the statement by the President of the Belarus addressed to the participants of the special session of the UN General Assembly on HIV / AIDS, held in New York in June 2016.

Both sides expressed hope that Belarus' membership in the governing body of UNAIDS (the Programme Coordinating Board) in 2017 will give a new impetus to the activity of state bodies in the interests of Belarusian citizens within the country, as well as will strengthen the image of Belarus on the international arena.
