Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas meets the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund

On December 6, 2019, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas met with UN Under-Secretary General, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Natalia Kanem, who is on an official visit in Minsk.

This is the first visit of the head of fund to Belarus.

The interlocutors discussed the topical issues of cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations Population Fund.

The sides prioritized main directions of the future country program of UNFPA for Belarus for 2021-2025, as well as project cooperation in the sphere of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals such as active longevity, support of people with disabilities, advancement of women, reproductive health, development of an effective demographic and sustainable development strategy based on use of census data.

A. Dapkiunas and N. Kanem agreed on further support of these activities by the UN system.

During the visit, which will last on December 9, bilateral meetings of Natalia Kanem with Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko, as well as heads of relevant ministries and departments are planned.

The program also includes N. Kanem’s visit to the Republican Scientific Practical Center “Mother and Child”, her participation in the discussion on the results of UNFPA project and meetings with representatives of IT-sector.
