Presentation at the meeting of the Interdepartmental Council for Tourism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposal of a comprehensive national strategy for tourism development

On February 6, 2018 in Minsk, the Interagency Expert Coordination Council for Tourism under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus considered the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the development of a comprehensive national strategy (concept) for tourism development in Belarus and approved the initial steps for the organization of this work.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, presented the participants of the meeting with arguments in support of the idea of developing such an instrument and his vision of its’ possible outline.

Background Information: At present, the development of tourist industry in the country is carried out in the framework of the state program “Belarus Hospitable”, designed for 2016-2020 years.

The basic purport of the proposed strategy is to enhance awareness and maximize the catalytic and multiplying impact of integrated development of tourist industry – both as the engine and the locomotive – for the development of related sectors of economy as well as social and economic infrastructure of the country.

Harnessing the potential and purposeful consolidation of resources and capabilities of a wide range of partners – ministries, local authorities, private sector, international partners and investors – around the conspicuous tourist advantages and charms of Belarus can not only increase awareness of the country in the world but also promote the development of small and medium business, economic, transport and social infrastructure, create new jobs and attract investment.
