Head of Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Larysa Belskaya participates in the regional segment of the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development under the auspices of ECOSOC

On July 10, 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development began its work from the consideration of achieving sustainable development at the regional level.

Head of Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Larysa Belskaya took part in the discussion about the achievements and problems on the way to sustainable development in the regions.

The Belarusian diplomat noted the important role of UNECE in providing sustainability at the national level. She stressed that the standards and norms the UNECE forms for economic cooperation, trade and energy, transport and statistics, innovation and investment, housing and environment are a critical element in the successful achievement of the practical tasks of sustainable development.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the interest of Belarus in expanding UNECE participation in the implementation of public-private partnership projects. With successful interaction of public and private partners, people, especially the most vulnerable, receive a concrete benefit in the form of better and more efficient services.

Noting the important role of the UNECE in ensuring the environmental sustainability of the region, L.Belskaya mentioned the positive results of the Seventh Conference of the Parties to the Espoo Convention held in Minsk on June 12-16, 2017.

The Belarusian diplomat also noted the unique potential of the UNECE, which can effectively promote the formation of mutually beneficial relations among states belonging to different integration associations in the “Greater Europe”.

L.Belskaya also highly appreciated the report on sustainable development in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) region. Belarus is confident that the integration potential, combined with national actions, is a significant factor in the successful achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the EAEU Member States.
