Permanent Representative of Belarus to the OSCE A.Kupchyna participates in the first meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council

On January 11, 2018, a first meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council was held in Vienna under Italian Chairmanship, which presented its program in OSCE for the year 2018. The meeting was attended by representatives of the OSCE member-states, OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, heads of executive structures and institutions of the Organization.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE Ambassador Alena Kupchyna addressed the meeting with a speech, particularly stressing that an open, transparent and inclusive dialogue plays a key role in reducing tensions and preventing military confrontation on the European continent.

A.Kupchyna also confirmed that the Belarusian Side is ready to actively participate in mitigating transnational challenges and threats, in particular, by organizing an OSCE conference in Minsk on terrorism prevention issues with an emphasis on cyberspace.

The Belarusian diplomat spoke for strengthening economic connectivity and deepening contacts between various integration structures on the OSCE platform. She expressed readiness of the Belarusian Side to contribute to development of digital economy issue within the OSCE agenda and share the country’s experience, including in the light of the Decree “On the Development of the Digital Economy”, signed by the President of the Republic of Belarus in December 2017.

In view of the Italian Chairmanship’s intention to revive the “Helsinki spirit” A.Kupchyna called on OSCE participating States, Organization’s executive structures and institutions to cooperate with the Belarusian Side with a view to implement in practice the Belarusian Head of State’s initiative to launch a “new Helsinki process” outlined in his speech at the 26th Annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Minsk in July 2017.
