Belarusian-Czech Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical cooperation

On May 16-17, 2017 Prague hosted the 9th meeting of the Belarusian-Czech Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. On the margins of the Commission, meetings of the Belarusian-Czech Working Group on Agriculture and the Belarusian-Czech Working Group on Machine Building were also held.

The Belarusian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evgeny Shestakov, the Czech delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Jiri Koliba.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of bilateral trade and economic relations, the intensification of the involvement of Czech and Belarusian companies in the activities of the Joint Commission, the participation of Belarus in the international engineering exhibition MSV 2017 to be held in October 2017 in Brno, as well as facilitation of the Business day of Republic of Belarus on the margins of the exhibition.

Special attention was paid to the cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. It was emphasized that recently Czech companies are not only suppliers of power equipment, but also direct investors. The parties discussed possible options for the construction of a hydroelectric power station by Czech companies in our country.

Within the framework of the Belarusian-Czech working group on agriculture, the sides reached an agreement to deepen cooperation in the veterinary and phytosanitary field, education in the field of agriculture, as well as considered the proposals of Czech companies for the construction of dairy farms and livestock complexes in Belarus. The participation of the Czech Republic in the International Agricultural Exhibition “Belagro 2017” to be held in Minsk, was also discussed.

Within the framework of the Belarusian-Czech working group on machine building, the parties considered the prospects for joint production of auto components for the needs of Belarusian and Czech enterprises.
