Permanent Representative of Belarus A.Kupchyna participates in the 28th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

On May 20, 2019 the 28th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) under the Presidency of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus, Ambassador Alena Kupchyna started its work in Vienna.

For reference. The CCPCJ is one of the eight functional commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and operates on the premises of the United Nations Office in Vienna. The CCPCJ acts as a central body of the UN system responsible for the formulation of international approaches in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, including in such areas as the fight against transnational organized crime, corruption, human trafficking. The CCPCJ monitors the application of the relevant United Nations standards and norms, develops recommendations to counter new and emerging forms of crime.

Belarus has been a member of the CCPCJ for the past ten years. The representative of Belarus heads the ECOSOC functional commission for the first time. 
 
During the session, the CCPCJ will consider eleven draft resolutions on such issues as countering child sexual exploitation, strengthening of the international cooperation to combat cybercrime, countering the smuggling of commercial goods, enhancement of transparency of the judicial proceedings.
 
The Belarusian delegation has tabled for consideration of the CCPCJ a draft resolution entitled “Strengthening crime prevention through society-wide approaches”.
 
On the margins of the session 126 thematic events will be held. Among them there is a thematic discussion on “The Role of Technology in Facilitation and Addressing Sex Trafficking”, jointly organized by Belarus, the UNODC, the OSCE and the international NGO “Equality Now”.
