Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of member-states of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia

On April 28, 2016 in Beijing Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, participated in the session of member-states of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

In his statement, the Head of the Belarusian Foreign Service expressed his gratitude to the members of the Organization for granting Belarus a status of the observer-state at the CICA. Vladimir Makei underlined that CICA activity directions are in line with the priorities of the foreign policy of Belarus. Our country is ready to contribute to the activity of the Conference regarding combatting terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration, playing a role of the Western border for our Eurasian partners.

It was highlighted that Belarus supports CICA efforts fostered to building peace and sustainable development both in the Asian region and in a wider international context. According to V.Makei, overcoming of many modern challenges and threats depends on mutually beneficial economic integration. For this very reason, Belarus supports convergence of the Eurasian Economic Union with other integration associations.

On the margins of the session, Minister of Foreign Affairs held meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai, and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahriar Alam.

During the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Head of the Belarusian Foreign Service underlined interest of Belarus in the activation of the Belarusian-Thai relations. For this purposes, the sides reached an agreement to organize the exchange of visits of representatives of various ministries and business circles of the two countries in 2016, promote the work on the draft agreement on trade and economic cooperation and the establishment on its basis of the Intergovernmental Commission.

At the meeting with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the sides shaped further ways of intensification of contacts between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, agreed on the exchange of visits of representatives of business circles, touched upon the issues regarding holding of the Joint Belarusian-Bangladeshi Commission on trade and economic cooperation.

In the course of the CICA session, V.Makei also held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. During the meetings, the current issues of the bilateral relations were discussed.
