8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Slovenian Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation

On February 4, 2020 the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Slovenian Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was held at the Brdo Congress Center near Ljubljana.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Oleg Kravchenko, the Slovenian delegation was led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dobran Božič.

During the meeting, the parties considered topical issues of bilateral trade in goods and services, cooperation in the fields of transport, energy, industry and tourism, expanding the legal framework of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was paid to identifying promising areas of cooperation and projects.

The agreements of the parties were reflected in the final protocol of the meeting of the commission, signed by the heads of delegations at the end of the event. On the margins of the meeting, the memorandum of cooperation between the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Slovenian Development and Export Bank «SID Bank» was also signed.

Linked to the meeting of the commission, a business seminar was held on the premises of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, with the participation of representatives of business circles of  the two countries.

Background Information: In January – November 2019, trade turnover increased by 19.8% and amounted to 114.8 million US dollars. The exports declined 8.3% to $ 10.6 million, the imports increased 23.7% to $ 104.2 million.

Over the specified period, the turnover of services grew by 38.3% to $ 54.2 million with the exports increased by 22.3% to $ 25.4 million, the imports – by 56.2% to $ 28.8 million.

In January – September 2019, the volume of Slovenian investments in the Belarusian economy amounted to $ 676.2 thousand (in the same period in 2018 – $ 1 464.1 thousand).
