Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Rybakov meets the UNDP Administrator

On September 27, 2016 at the UN headquarters in New York, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, held a working meeting with the Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Helen Clark.



V.Rybakov presented H.Clark the work of a Like-Minded Group of Supporters of Middle-Income Countries. The Deputy Minister noted that the group successfully held on September, 23 the first Ministerial meeting of its’ members under the chairmanship of the Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Costa Rica.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the ongoing preparations for the Quadrennial comprehensive policy review of the UN system operational activities. The purpose of the review is to detect and eliminate the existing shortcomings, as well as to improve the efficiency of United Nations operational agencies. V.Rybakov noted that during forthcoming negotiations Belarus would focus not on the restructuring of the entire system, but on the strengthening of the existing mechanisms, improving and enhancing their effectiveness while maintaining non-politicized nature of the system and leadership of Member States in choosing the ways and methods of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in accordance with national priorities and needs.

The Deputy Foreign Minister expressed confidence that UNDP would make a significant contribution to that process taking into account the Programme’s rich experience in the promotion of the development.

The sides also exchanged opinions on the selection process of a new UN Secretary General.
