Оn the Statement of Belarus in the Discussion on Protection of Children

On October 17, 2014 the delegation of Belarus to the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly took part in the discussion of the UN GA on the issue of protection of children.

Mrs.Irina Velichko, Deputy Director for Global Policy and Humanitarian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, informed the participants of the event on the implementation of the National plan of action on the status of children for the term 2012-2016.

The delegate of Belarus noted that according to the international independent organization “Save the Children”, Belarus is among 40 countries mostly fit for children, ranking 36th out of 173 Member States.

The representative of Belarus announced forthcoming regional UNICEF conference on strengthening national mechanisms for the protection of children from violence and exploitation to be held on October 12-13, 2014, in Minsk.

Mrs Velichko emphasized the dynamic cooperation between UNICEF and national and local authorities as well as civil society of Belarus in order to effectively implement the national policy in the area of protection of children. She expressed confidence that such cooperation should be enshrined in a new UNICEF country program for Belarus for 2016-2020.
