Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Italy

On June 23, 2017 Minsk hosted the next round of Deputy Ministers’ political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Italy.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Kravchenko, the Italian delegation was led by the Undersecretary of State of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincenzo Amendola, who is visiting Belarus to participate in the high-level events of the Central European Initiative (CEI).

During the consultations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of the development of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic, investment, humanitarian, educational, cultural and other spheres. The sides considered current state and prospects for interaction within international organizations, including in the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the CEI, taking into account upcoming Italy’s Chairmanship of the OSCE and Belarus’ Presidency of the CEI. The sides exchanged opinions on Belarus-EU dialogue and current issues on international agenda.

Within the 25th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Italy, which is celebrated this year, both sides confirmed a high level and positive dynamics of bilateral relations, its’ special character based on thousands of interpersonal contacts, significant potential for building up of mutually beneficial economic cooperation. Further development of Belarusian-Italian interaction was agreed upon.

On the same day, the first consular consultations at the level of Deputy Ministers between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Italy took place.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evgeny Shestakov, the Italian delegation was led by the Undersecretary of State of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincenzo Amendola.

The sides discussed current bilateral interaction in consular issues, including international adoption and recuperation of Belarusian minors in Italy, noticed a constructive longstanding cooperation in these spheres.

The parties exchanged views on visa-free entry procedure for Italian citizens in the Republic of Belarus and entry of Belarusian citizens in Italy with Schengen visa, as well as discussed conclusion of agreements on readmission and visa facilitation between the Republic of Belarus and the European Union.

The sides considered a number of other issues of mutual interest.
