President of the African Union Commission visits Belarus

On April 21 – 24, 2016 the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is on a visit to Belarus.

On April 22 N.Dlamini Zuma met with the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Mikhnevich. During the meeting the sides discussed the prospects of expanding comprehensive cooperation between Belarus and the most influential integration structure on the African continent.

The export potential of Belarus is almost entirely based on products that are in demand in Africa. The sides agreed to intensify cooperation in such areas as mechanization and capacity building in agriculture, industry, education, health, combating cross-border crime.

N.Dlamini Zuma assured of her full support of the exchange of information for a better use of the Belarusian technological potential in attaining large-scale goals of African countries, identifying opportunities and forms of the Belarusian presence on the African continent.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Commission of the African Union on the mechanism of political consultation and exchange of information was signed. This document will form the basis for further cooperation between Belarus and this important regional organization.
