On 28–29 July 2010, UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres was in Minsk, with the first ever visit to Belarus since our co-operation with the Office of the UNHCR began.

António Guterres met with high officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior Ministry and the State Border Committee.

These meetings focused on how to further intensify co-operation between Belarus and the UNHCR Office, including in project activities, in larger engagement of the Office in Belarus’ efforts on tackling human trafficking, in harnessing Minsk Training Centre on Counteracting Human Trafficking by the Office to hold international seminars and workshops.

The visit marked the signing of an agreement between Belarus and the Office on co-operation and legal status of the UNHCR Office in Minsk and its staff.
