Belarusian books bestowed to the US Congress Library
On 25 June, at a ceremony in Washington Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky handed over some of the best Belarusian books – the laureates of the national and international book contests – to the US Congress Library.
In a speech, the Director stressed this will contribute to the spread of knowledge about Belarus among Americans and without a doubt will encourage better understanding between the two nations.
The Congress Library pointed the importance of this kind gesture of the Belarusian side and expressed willingness to develop co-operation with the National Library of Belarus.
Both sides agreed on concrete forms of interaction with each other, including book exchange.
Passing the books to the US Congress Library was the first step within the Belarus Today project seeking to hand over about one hundred of the best Belarusian books to the five largest libraries across the globe.
The books will largely talk about socio-economic and political life of Belarus, its ancient history and culture. They will include art, scientific and popular science editions, encyclopedias, guides and photo albums.
