07 May 2024

On May 7, 2024 on the eve of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, and employees of the Foreign Ministry laid flowers at the ‘Stele to Soldiers and Partisans in mass graves’ at the Military Cemetery in Minsk.

Minister Sergei Aleinik stressed the importance of preserving the historical memory and defending the exploits of the Belarusian and, in a broader context, the Soviet people.

“On these bright May days, we all go to the monuments with which the long-suffering Belarusian land is strewn. We are going to honor the memory of the fallen, to pay tribute to the courage, heroism and perseverance of our people in those difficult years,” said S.Aleinik.

The Minister spoke in detail about the work of the Foreign Ministry and foreign missions to protect historical memory in today's difficult times, as well as about the events timed by the Belarusian diplomatic missions to mark the Victory Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. Among them is the information action ‘Memorial Candle’. On May 8-9, candles will be lit in Belarusian diplomatic missions around the world in memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War.

‘We are also conducting an information campaign in social networks #BY80, and we invite all concerned Belarusians to join it,’ said the head of the Foreign Ministry. Remember your relatives, share your thoughts, places or war stories that most affected you under a single hashtag #BY80.
